A Vertical Single Cord consists of one framework branch that grows (more or less) straight up.
Features:
1 framework branch
growth direction upwards
fruit wood is grown close to the framework branch
The fruit wood (side wood) grows in the direction of the rowand is cultivated close to the central branch by pruning. Fruit wood that is perpendicular to the direction of the row is pruned away with priority.

Advice
Espalier forms from this category are suitable for novice espalier fruit growers. You will then gain experience with:
training espalier fruit trees
the response of a fruit tree
To create a neat and harmonious appearance it is essential that mutual distances are exactly the same. In this context it is important:
planting of seedlings Make sure that framework branches will be at the same distance from each other. When planting distance, take into account the final espalier shape of the tree.
Growing phase Make sure the distances from bend to bend are identical.
To give a frame branch with curves a flowing line, regular tying is necessary.
Espalier forms with right-angled bends have a high risk of excessive shoot formation on the ‘elbows’. Shoots on the ‘elbow’ should therefore be pruned away at an early stage, with a flat cut.
