Triptych
Description
A triptych is a combination of 3 espalier fruit trees, where the two outer trees have the same espalier shape, and the middle tree has a different espalier shape.
Features:
- fixed combination of 3 espalier fruit trees [^1]
- belonging to 2 types of espalier
- the two outer slate shapes are identical (possibly mirrored)
- the middle espalier is different from the two outer ones
- the middle trellis shape generally takes up more space than the outer two
- fruitwood is grown short on the stem branch
[^1]: Exception: 4 espalier fruit trees if the middle espalier is a Twin espalier.
A triptych often consists of a Palmette between two Vertical Single Cords or Vertical Double Cords (U shape).

Opinion
When choosing a breed, take breed characteristics into account.
A larger espalier in the middle requires a more vigorous cultivar than a smaller espalier on the outside.
