Opinion
This espalier has many crossing framework branches and that is actually undesirable. Keep in mind that the space distribution (lighting) is sub-optimal in places where the framework branches cross each other. In those places more shoot thinning (or thinning of fruiting seats) is needed, so that the remaining shoots receive sufficient sunlight. That requires more maintenance (pruning).
