Description
A twin espalier, of two ‘half’ Candelabrum Palmettes, which are mirrored next to each other. Together they create a diptych that looks like one 2-sided Candelabrum Palmette.
There are several conceivable variations on this espalier form, for example with framework branches that become slightly shorter towards the outside (‘roof-shaped’), with framework branches that cross each other, or without central branches.
The Twin Palmet is an artistic duo tree.
Opinion
Difficult to cultivate. The maintenance of a mature tree is difficult and largely dependent on (thorough) cultivation.
The espalier shape looks simple, but is a difficult palmette shape. The twin palmette requires thorough cultivation to be able to maintain the shape in a sustainable manner. The inner framework branches (heart branches) have a strong tendency to grow, while the outer framework branches are actually inhibited in their growth due to the curvature. This makes it twice as difficult to distribute growth and fruiting evenly and sustainably over the espalier shape.
