Description
Twin espalier form in which two Ordinary Vertical Strings grow towards each other in an arc.
Features of the espalier form:
- 2 Vertical Cords
- both cords grow towards each other
- fruitwood is grown short on the stem branch
A single arch shape of espalier fruit can be an alternative to a rose arch. Do take into account their mutual differences:
- fruit trees bloom for a much shorter period than most roses
- fruit trees produce edible fruits after blossoming
- the care of fruit trees and roses varies considerably
Please note: To prevent bird damage, bird netting is often required around harvest time, so that you cannot walk underneath it.
You can place one arch shape, or several in a row (with more or less distance between the arches). When several arches are placed in a row and are connected to each other, we speak of a Berceau [^1].

Opinion
The slate construction is of a permanent nature
Therefore, ensure a construction made of stainless steel (galvanized).

- When the heart branches touch each other at the top (‘shaking hands‘), you can graft both trees together with a ‘marriage graft’.
- A single arch shape is nice to give as a gift for a special occasion, for example at a wedding. As a frame you can use a solid rose arch.
- A round arch shape works easiest. An angular arch shape is also possible in principle, but more difficult to maintain.
Those who dare to take on a bigger challenge can also consider a Berceau.
