Leivorm with four U shapes in one flat plane. In a Gaucher palmette with an even number of U shapes, the central branch is missing.
The quadruple U-shape is a variation on the double U-shape.
A quadruple U-shape takes considerably more time and skill to grow than a double U-shape.
The quadruple U-shape is a complex espalier shape that requires years of planning by the grower. Before the cultivation begins, the grower must make a design drawing. The grower must then implement this design purposefully and consistently for years. Design errors in complex palmette shapes are virtually impossible to correct afterwards.
Some tree growers choose to keep the horizontal parts ‘bare’ because they naturally bear less fruit and it takes relatively more work to grow fruit on them.
Opinion
Very difficult and time-consuming (therefore expensive) to grow. On the other hand, fairly easy to maintain.
Verrier palmet and Gaucher palmet are a lot easier to grow.
