Description
This espalier resembles (and is named after) the shape of a Jewish candelabrum: a candle holder with 7 arms, also called a menorah. All the framework branches lie in one flat plane.
Features:
two-dimensional slate form with parallel stemmed branches
framework branches guided in the shape of a “Jewish candelabrum” [^1]
minimum 4 framework branches in 2+ floors [^2]
Candelabrum with central branch has an odd number of framework branches (5, 7, …).
Kandelaber zonder harttak bezit een even aantal gesteltakken (4, 6, …).
fruitwood is grown short on the stem branch
The Kandelaber Palmet is derived from the Schuin Palmet.

[^1]: This website counts the Vertical Palmet as a separate category of the same rank; Beccaletto (2001) also classifies this espalier form as the Candelabrum Palmet. [^2]: For espalier form with 3 framework branches see main category: Trident.
Opinion
The growing phase of a Candelabrum is initially the same as that of the Slanting Palmet; in a later phase the framework branches are set in the shape of a Candelabrum.
The absence of a heart branch is beneficial, because the espalier shape then remains more easily in balance. A heart branch tends to grow faster, at the expense of framework branches that are more on the outside.
