Synonym: fan shape with heart branch
Description
In the fan with heart branch, the framework branches are divided from the base to fill the surface, with a middle branch. In this fan shape, little or no attention is usually paid to symmetry.
Features of standard tree:
- two-dimensional espalier shape with plane-filling framework branches
- framework branches in the shape of a Japanese fan
- ‘loose’ espalier (without strict symmetry)
- with central branch
- With stone fruits, one stem is often kept (tree shape).
With figs, multiple stems are often kept (bush shape). - fruit wood is grown quite close to the framework branch (if possible)

Opinion
A fan with a central branch is easy to train (requires little knowledge), but is not really to be considered as a trained form because symmetry is often lacking. Reasonably good production.
Recommended for frost-sensitive fruit varieties (such as figs) against a south-facing wall.
Also suitable for stone fruits, but the fan without the central leader works better.
Not suitable for seed fruits (pear, apple).
