Nickname:
Historical name:
goblet
cup
Alternative name:
This espalier was named a few centuries ago after the shape of a ‘goblet‘ or ‘chalice’, an object that you now only find in museums. Because our current frame of reference is quite different from that of then, this espalier was renamed ‘Medieval drinking cup’. This term is more in line with the experience of today.
Opinion
It is best to grow a cup shape immediately at its final location, because a fully grown specimen is difficult to transport.
Suitable as a solitary tree.
