Description
Category 3D espalier shapes with framework branches in the shape of an imaginary cylinder / tube.
Features of standard tree:
- framework branches) in the shape of a cylinder or tube
- one to (usually) many framework branches
- framework branches grow vertically, parallel, at regular intervals, with a circular basal surface
- espalier form requires a permanent espalier construction
- fruit wood is grown quite close to the framework branch
Note:
- The number of framework branches is variable (depending on the size of the espalier tree and the preference of the espalier fruit grower).
- Variants with (partly) horizontally running framework branches are often also possible.

Standard forms from this category can be used for solitary trees, as a focal point in the garden.
The more complex espalier forms have more T-junctions at the base, but their cultivation is similar. Only start on these espalier forms if you have mastered the Common U-shape.
Provide a durable slate construction, for example made of (stainless) galvanized iron or (rust-brown) Corten steel.
