Quick scan espalier fruit wall

Goal

  • To assess whether an (old) garden wall was (probably) used in the past for espalier fruit cultivation.
  • To assess whether a (recent) garden wall is currently suitable for espalier fruit cultivation.

Context

A Quick Scan Fruit Wall is relevant if:

  • a garden wall does not yet have espalier fruit
  • It is unknown whether the garden wall was ever used for espalier fruit

Method

During a Quickscan, Espalier visits your location and walks along the garden wall with the plot owner. The wall is visually assessed. They look for construction features and traces that provide indications that espalier fruit was grown there in the past.

Result

Afterwards you will receive a short report with findings.

You can include this in a plan for the restoration of the wall, redesign of the garden, master plan for the location as a whole, etc.

Price

From €100.

  • If your location has a historical archive, it is recommended to examine it yourself in advance. (Archive research is not part of a Quickscan.)
  • A structural assessment of the condition of a espalier fruit wall falls outside the scope of the Quick Scan; such research requires the expertise of a certified and specialised renovation company.

Disclaimer

– Espalier is a non-profit knowledge institution. We collect and share knowledge about espalier fruit and aim to provide independent advice that increases the quality of espalier fruit culture. Complaints can never amount to more than the client paid for an assignment.

– Botanical advice is given on the basis of a sound botanical background, and more than 10 years of experience with the cultivation and maintenance of (historical) espalier fruit at various espalier fruit locations. The person concerned has in the past, among other things, followed an espalier fruit course with Jan Freriks.
