Advice
The sharp bends obstruct and push the sap flow extra strongly. This is accompanied by a strong tendency for shoot formation on the ‘elbows’; prune these shoots completely at an early stage (with a flat cut), to prevent excessive shoot growth at a later stage. Neglecting this pruning will ultimately be at the expense of the espalier shape. For example, because more drastic pruning is then necessary, resulting in large pruning wounds.
