Advice
A horizontal shoot position inhibits the flow of sap and therefore growth.
Therefore, in the cultivation phase, always give the end of the heart branch a position diagonally upwards.
To do this, stick a bamboo stick diagonally into the ground and tie the shoot end to it.
Once the shoot has grown a bit, move the bamboo stick in the ground a bit and re-tie the shoot.
The ideal moment to ‘guide’ a shoot around the bend is when the shoot is about 15 cm beyond the bend.
The reasoning behind this is:
- Tiing it up too early is accompanied by growth inhibition.
- Tiing it up too late has the disadvantage that the shoot is already lignifying,
which makes it less flexible and more difficult to guide into a smooth bend.
