Oblique Palmet

Basic shape

Regular Oblique Palmet

Central branch with oblique branches

Nice example of an oblique palm in the propagation phase. Storeys are about 50 cm above each other. On each floor, both frame branches are planted at approximately the same height on the trunk. Upwards, each subsequent floor was constructed later. This makes the lower frame branches heavier; this prevents branch calcification at a later age. Frame branches are implanted on the central branch at an ideal angle of 45 degrees; At this position, the ratio between generative growth (flower bud formation / fruiting) and vegetative growth (shoot and leaf formation) is optimal. Advice

The Sloping Palmette is an important basic form. During its cultivation phase you can still switch to another espalier form. You can bend the young framework branches into, for example, a Horizontal Palmette or Candlebar Palmette. These espalier forms are initially cultivated as Sloping Palmette; in a later phase, the frame branches are put into a different, definitive shape.

For additional information see main article: Palmet.
